The instructions provided below are for customers who wish to utilize a router with our Wireless ADSL Service on the Motorola Canopy platform.
Please follow the steps on this tutorial to set up your router with PPPOE for your CaribServe Wireless ADSL connection. Please note, the steps provided herein were taken from a Cisco Linksys Router with a Windows XP PC. Configuration may vary for routers from a different vendor or on a computer with a different operating system.
Part 1 - Ensure that the local area connection on my pc is enabled and working:
  1. Plug a network cable from the LAN on your router to your PC / Laptop.
  2. Make sure the router is powered on (lights on).
  3. On your PC, click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications and finally, Network Connections This will open up a window titled Network Connections.
  4. Navigate the cursor of your mouse over the icon titled Local Area Connection, and Hold down the right mouse button to display the hidden menu, select Properties. This will open up a window titled, Local Area Connection Properties.
  5. Using the left button on your mouse, double-click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  6. This will open up a window titled, Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties.
  7. In this window, please make sure that both options are set to Obtain Automatically.
  8. Click OK to close the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window.
  9. Click OK again to close the Local Area Connection Properties window.
  10. This will bring you back to the Network Connections window.
  11. Make sure your Local Area Connection is Enabled (should look like the icon below).
  12. If the local area connection icon is grayed out, right click the icon and select Enable.
Part 2 - Obtain the IP Address of my router:
  1. In Windows XP, Click the START Button.
  2. Click on RUN and type CMD in the corresponding window and hit Enter.
  3. A window titled Command Prompt will open.
  4. Type ipconfig in this window and hit Enter.
  5. Record the IP address of your default gateway (this is the IP address of your router).image008
Part 3 - Configure my router:
  1. Open a web browser and navigate to the IP address of your router.image010
  2. Log into the router (Enter the username and password if prompted to do so - Check the manual of your router for the default username and password).
  3. Click on the Setup or Main Page.
  4. Set Connection Type to PPPOE.
  5. Under username, please enter your CaribServe username in lowercase letters (DO NOT add to the username).
  6. Make sure that Service Name is blank (nothing entered).
  7. Select Keep Alive.
  8. Make sure MTU is set to AUTO.
  9. Click on Apply or Save.
  10. The router will reboot.
  11. Once configured, connect the CaribServe connection to the WAN port of the router.
Notes: Once you are online with your router, please download and install the latest firmware for your router from the manufacturer's website. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully on how to proceed with this step.
