Send and receive email

Browse the Internet

What do I need to use the service?

To start using this service at any one of our wireless hotspot locations, all you need is a WIFI (802.11b/g) capable computing device and a CaribServe.NET Pre-paid Hostpot Card.

WIFI (802.11b/g) capable computing devices - Many laptops and PDAs now come with a WIFI device built-in. If your laptop or device isn't capable of accessing this service, check with an IT retailer to see whether you can buy a compatible WIFI card. You'll then need to install and configure any necessary software on your laptop. Please check with the equipment supplier or manufacturer to find out how to do this.

Where can I use CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot service?

The service is available in CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot locations island-wide - you'll see our wireless hotspot signs to let you know where the service is available. A full list of our wireless hotspot locations will be available on this site in the near future.

How can I tell how long I have been connected to the service?

Once you have logged in, a pop-up window will appear showing you approximately how long you have been connected. Please note that this is a guide only, and the time shown on your account may differ. (If you are running pop-up blocking software you will not see this pop-up window.)

How secure is the service?

CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot service uses radio waves to transmit and receive unencrypted data across a public network. This means that CaribServe.NET is unable to provide a guarantee against the risk of data interception or misuse.

As such, we strongly recommend that you protect your computing device through methods such as a firewall and anti-virus software, and use. You will need to assess your own security needs depending on what you do online, and make sure you have the required protection. If you are purchasing items online with your credit card you should take all normal security measures including checking the security provided by the company you are purchasing from.

How do I get to my normal browser homepage?

To access the Internet from any one of CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot locations you first need to log in from the CaribServe.NET wireless hotspot home page using the PIN# provided on the Pre-paid Hotspot access card. Once you have logged in, you will then be able to see your normal home page and any other web pages that you want to visit.

I think there's a problem with coverage at a wireless hotspot. What should I do?

The connection between your device and the Internet is made via a radio signal, which can be affected by a number of external factors. CaribServe.NET has made every effort to ensure that you experience the best quality service it can offer, however if you are having problems please call us on +(599) 542-4233 and let us know, so we can investigate the situation.

If my computer has fixed network settings (IP), will it work with this service?

Our wireless hotspot service uses address translation, and is designed to overcome most fixed network settings. Traffic to the Internet will automatically use a different source IP address than that specified on your computer. Note that due to the nature of this address translation, your computer cannot act as a server. For our wireless hotspot service CaribServe.NET recommends the use of dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP). This allows our wireless network hotspot service to automatically configure your network settings.

What if I'm running pop-up blocking software or have disabled Java scripting?

The pop-up Log out window will not appear if you are running blocking software or have disabled "active scripting" and/or "scripting of Java applets" under Security in Internet Options. A web page is presented as you log on with options to either "Continue" or "Log out". It is important that you bookmark this page so you can return to it at the end of your session. To cease billing and minimize security risks you will need to return to this page and log out using the "Log out" button. See also "When does billing for each session cease?"

Please note that WindowsXP Service Pack 2 auto disables "active scripting" and/or "scripting of Java applets" and thus the pop-up logout window will not appear unless you permit pop-ups for that specific window.

Why do I need to log out when I've finished using the service?

When you are using CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot service there is a potential risk of third parties being able to "see" what information you are sending and receiving. To reduce this risk we suggest you log out when you've finished your session. Note that if you're running pop-up blocking software or have either "active scripting" and/or "scripting of Java applets" disabled the Log out pop-up window won't display and you will need to access the Log out web page. This page is presented as you log on. It is important that you bookmark the page so you can return to it to properly log out at the end of your session. We also suggest that you use methods such as a firewall and anti-virus software and take other reasonable security precautions when connected.

When does billing for each session cease?

When you log out of CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot service using the Log out pop-up window, billing will stop immediately and a confirmation page will be displayed summarizing your activity. If you are running pop-up blocking software or have either "active scripting" &/or "scripting of Java applets" disabled this pop-up will not display and you will need to access the Log out web page. This page is presented to you as you log on. It is important that you bookmark the page so you can return to it at the end of your session. To cease billing and minimize security risks you will need to return to this page and log out using the "Log out" button. Alternatively you can disable or remove your wireless networking device, shut down your PC, or move out of range of our wireless hotspot location for more than two minutes in order to log out. If our network detects that your connection has ended without you logging out, billing will automatically stop after a short period. We suggest though that you log out when you have finished your wireless hotspot session, as this helps improve your security.

What happens if I get a new laptop or wireless device?

Provided your new laptop or wireless device is WIFI (802.11b/g) capable, you will be able to use it to access CaribServe.NET’s wireless hotspot service.
